Duratek to Help Fund Waste Treatment Plant

Columbia, Md. – Duratek Inc. has signed two contracts with Bechtel National Inc. (BNI), Denver, worth $110.7 million for the design and construction of the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant. BNI is one of the Department of Energy’s primary contractors. The goal of the project is to treat 53 million gallons of high-level radioactive waste stored in 177 underground tanks at the Hanford site in Southeastern Washington state. One of the contracts will tackle research and development; the other will support the design of BNI’s melter vitrification system, a disposal method for high-level radioactive waste.
